An Actuary Like Me – Simone Brathwaite

I am proud to be an actuary because it offers an ever-evolving learning curve.

Simone Brathwaite is a Senior Principal with Oliver Wyman. She has over 20 years of experience in the life insurance industry in geographies spanning North America, Europe and the Caribbean, gaining extensive knowledge and expertise in the field. She has worked with a variety of clients and has a deep understanding of the industry’s complexities, regulations, and trends. She takes the time to get to know each client and their unique circumstances, including their risk tolerance, financial goals, and budget. She aims to develop customised solutions that meet her clients’ needs, rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

What is the most valuable skill an actuary can possess?

Curiosity and passion for solving complex problems.

What is your advice for younger/rising actuaries?

To explore various areas, if you can, before you specialise — your ultimate choice will benefit from the breadth of experience as well.

What’s something an outsider wouldn’t know about your industry?

Life insurers don’t have enough money to cover everyone dropping dead at once.
